Westwood’s Paul Bunyan Blues Festival Happens This Weekend

At the 2023 Westwood Paul Bunyan Festival parade

The Westwood Area Chamber of Commerce’s big, annual Paul Bunyan Mountain and Blues Festival takes place July 5th and 6th, featuring live music, a logging show, a parade, a fun-run and much, much more!

The weekend begins with a downtown street dance Friday evening featuring the band Side FX. The dance is free and starts at 8:00p.m. in front of the railroad depot.

Saturday’s fun activities include Breakfast by the WHS ASB Clubs at 8:00a.m. in the Community Center, a Fun Run at 8:00 and the parade, which begins at 10:30a.m. at 3rd and Ash streets.

Pat Costa will be honored as Grand Marshal of the parade – for fifty-four years Pat has dedicated her life to teaching and nurturing the youngest of Westwood’s residents. Mrs. Costa moved to Westwood and began teaching at Fletcher Walker Elementary School in 1970, just two weeks after getting married. She continued teaching grades K-8, to three generations in some local families, until she retired, for good, in 2023.

Festival gates open at 11:00a.m. in Westwood Park, Greenwood and 2nd streets, and will feature a logging show, antiques, crafts, collectibles, a kid’s area, games, and Blue Ox Bingo. Gate entry is $5 for all ages and the children’s area is not included in admission prices.

There will also be Pickle Ball on the tennis courts and food booths and more.

Two bands will be providing some awesome blues music for the afternoon: The Amy Celeste Band from 12:00 until 2:00 and Second Hand Smoke from 2:30 to 4:30.
