Spalding residents were allowed to return home yesterday, as containment of the 18,703 acre Whaleback Fire rose to 95% and evacuation orders were lifted.
Only residents are allowed in, and they must show proof of residency.
The County Road A1 remains closed through the fire area until 7:00p.m., so access into Spalding for today is from Highway 139 to Eagle Lake Road.
Lassen Municipal Utility District began restoring power to Spalding, Bucks Bay, Stones and customers at the north end of Eagle Lake at 9:00 this morning.
It will take between 6 and 8 hours for the process to be complete.
LMUD personnel and firefighters will be in the vicinity to assist should there be any issues with power restoration.
Northern California Interagency Incident Management Team 1, Curtis Coots IC will be transitioning to a local Type 3 Management Team with ICs Albert Savage and trainee Pete Martens as of 6:00p.m.
The fire camp at the fairgrounds will be closed by tomorrow afternoon.
Crews continue to mop up where necessary. Suppression repair work also continues across the fire. Firefighters are being demobilized and sent to higher priority fires across the state and
elsewhere.
Road Closures: The A1 road remains closed today from Eagle Lake Marina north to the intersection of A1 and Spalding Way until 7pm tonight when it will reopen to all traffic. Spalding
Way will only be open to residents.
Closures: The Forest Service recreation facilities along the south shore of Eagle Lake are still closed. Public lands have been temporarily closed in the fire area to provide for public safety.
