In our SusanvilleStuff feature (click here to read) on the multi-agency training exercise held Monday by the Susanville Police Department on the high school campus we got a look at the chaos and violence of a school shooting and what happens in the first moments of the crisis, but that is not where the exercise ended. After law enforcement secured the building and firefighters and EMS loaded patients into the ambulances what happened next?
“The full scale exercise in the afternoon included actual transport of victims by ambulance to Banner Lassen Medical Center,” explains Lassen county Public Health Emergency Preparedness Coordinator Christi Myers. “The hospital staff implemented their Hospital Incident Command System and went into lock down.”
Multiple victims were transported by Mountain Lifeflight to the emergency department at Banner Lassen where they were triaged and treated.
Preparing in Unity for a Safer Community
Lassen’s Public Health Department will be conducting a disaster preparedness summit in September, a county-wide public event featuring a 9/11 remembrance ceremony, dynamic speakers on individual and community preparedness plus breakout sessions and a keynote presentation by Rob Dudgeon, San Francisco’s Deputy Director of Emergency Management.
The daylong workshop will cover response to critical incidents, a panel of experts will talk about Lassen County’s top hazards and presenters will take a look at the April bus crash in Orland, California and the role that agency partnerships played in that response.
The Disaster Summit will be held September 11th at the Veteran’s Hall on Main Street from 8:00a.m. to 5:00p.m.
