If you’ve been around Susanville for a while, you probably remember Eric Skeans from his absolute bomb burrito shop on Main Street. Back when I was working graveyard shifts, that place was literally my light at the end of the tunnel.
Eric knows good food and is always creating something new, but more importantly, he is exactly the kind of person we love here in Lassen.
He’s a community guy through and through, a great dad, and a massive supporter of law enforcement… you can always find him trying to feed our local LEOs with extra food.
When he moved on to open the Firehouse Grill, it did not disappoint. His business gives the good ole people of Susanville (and Janesville!) an awesome spot to just hang out.
The atmosphere is totally eclectic with pinball, pool, darts, trivia on the TVs, a bar, and oh my gosh, the food is incredible. Whenever I have recruits, college students, or visiting families in town, I always point them there.
Let me tell you why Eric really earned this week’s shoutout. Last weekend, the weather completely washed out our Lassen College baseball parents’ day BBQ. We had over 40 parents who had traveled from all over the US to see their sons play, and suddenly we were going to lose our only chance to get everyone together to socialize.
I was scrambling for a backup plan and called Eric with barely 24 hours’ notice to literally beg if we could crash his spot. He immediately said yes and promised to figure something out for us.
Within just four hours, he texted me a custom, delicious menu and prepared to host our massive group with open arms. When our baseball families arrived, they were in absolute awe and truly felt like VIPs.
I wasn’t surprised, though, because I know that is just how Eric does things. He saved the weekend and gave our out-of-town guests a perfect example of true Susanville hospitality.
If you haven’t been to the Firehouse Grill recently, go grab a bite and support a guy who always shows up for our community, after all he is one of the reasons I love where we live.
