There are certain people who make Lassen County what it is – that small town magic that can’t be found anywhere else. For us, one of those people is John Deal
Now, everybody knows him as “JD.” Around here, you don’t even have to say his full name, you just say “JD,” and people instantly start smiling and telling stories.
Decades and decades of Lassen College baseball players have their own “JD stories.” If you’ve ever been around the field long enough, you’ve probably heard a few yourself.
Now, don’t let me sugarcoat it – JD can be a little ornery (you know what I mean). He’s got that old school, stubborn streak that only comes from living a full, hard, honest life.
He’ll tell you what he thinks straight up, no fluff, and sometimes you’ll get that gruff look before he breaks into a smile. That’s just JD.
It’s part of his charm, part of what makes him who he is. But underneath that tough exterior is one of the kindest hearts.
JD is a true county treasure. He’s a war veteran, a man’s man, someone who’s built from that old school toughness but has the biggest heart. He’s been part of Lassen baseball for longer than most of us can remember, and he pours everything he has into those kids, our kids.
Personally, I’m so thankful for JD. He’s been such a steady, genuine sounding board for Frankie, helping him coach and guide the program the way only JD can.
He brings history, perspective, and a whole lot of love… not just for the game, but for our whole family. He adores our girls, he loves his wife Miss Peggy, and he loves Frankie like a son.
His name is synonymous with our club and everything that makes it special. He’s an unreal man, one of those rare people who make this place what it is. We’re so lucky to know him, and even luckier to love him.
Here’s to you, JD. Lassen baseball wouldn’t be Lassen baseball without you.
