Why We Love This Place Wednesday: Kyle Bare

By Terra Avilla

I figured this week I would just continue to brag about the people I love here at Lassen College.
Kyle Bare is one of those people who reminds everyone why Lassen College is such a special place.

I first met Kyle during my time at Lassen, and it didn’t take long to realize he was a “real one.” Someone whose authenticity and wit leave an impression.

Working in financial aid, Kyle’s the steady presence who guides students through the sometimes-stressful world of forms, deadlines and paperwork.

Whether it’s cracking a clever joke in the midst of busy days or simply offering a calm, collected response when someone feels overwhelmed, Kyle brings balance to me, and I know he does to the entire team. He’s the kind of person who keeps spirits high and stress low for everyone around him.

Kyle Bare’s big heart is just as well-known as his dry wit. When there was a fundraiser for a local girl in need, Kyle was one of the first people to step up and offer a donation for the raffle. That’s just how he operates, never waiting to be asked and always ready to support the community and he didn’t ask for any recognition.

And here’s a fun fact: for the past three years, Kyle has been volunteering his time to help with the annual “Holiday with a Hero” event. He gets up at 4 a.m., showing up before sunrise to help cook breakfast for the 400 plus people involved.

It’s a massive job, but Kyle never complains, he just does what’s needed to make the day special for everyone there. Asking months ahead for the date so he can make sure it’s on his calendar.

Most importantly, Kyle is my steadfast lunch buddy. No matter how busy things get, I can always count on him to meet me in the café at noon. It’s more than just a routine it’s a chance to share a laugh and know there’s someone who genuinely cares about how the day’s going.

That consistency and kindness are Kyle’s real superpowers because he knows how to make people feel seen, valued, and supported, even if it’s just over a simple meal. That daily tradition has become something I look forward to it’s a simple reminder that good people make this place special and defiantly a reminder of why I love where we live.
