If fighting with people on the internet was a sport, I’d have my black belt by now. I could sweep the championship round with a snappy meme and one hand tied behind my back.
But even I had to pause this week when I saw the now-viral video of a mom ugly-crying on TikTok because her kid’s classroom didn’t have a “fun rug”. A rug. Not heat, not books, not boogers on the lunchbox. A rug.
Apparently, this parent was so distressed by the absence of plush, decorative fibers under her child that she declared the classroom a “dungeon.”
TikTok went wild, debating whether teachers should have matching carpets or whether parents should skip a nail appointment and instead just buy a rug off the teacher’s wish list.
Teachers themselves chimed in recounting tales of classroom carpets so frequently puked on that they basically qualified as biohazards. If you’re wondering: in Lassen, we have enough actual wild adventures without needing carpet drama.
Honestly, Lassen Teachers Are the Real Prize because let me tell you about our Lassen teachers. I’ve never met even a single one that I didn’t instantly want to nominate for sainthood or at least send a fruit basket to.
Even today, at Back to School Night, I was honestly overwhelmed – these folks go so above and beyond, it’s obvious. Teachers here help our kids, make things extra special, and somehow have the supernatural ability to remain cheerful after cleaning up a juice box explosion
Case in point… Pearl’s teacher, Miss Carlton. I know my kid is in the absolute best hands with her, and I could never fathom complaining about a rug when what really matters is the person at the front of the room.
We even got a “Handle with Care” note home. It was one of those simple gestures packed that made me so emotional because you just know that teachers here really think of pupils not just as students, but as an extension of their own little families.
A reminder that our educators are looking out for our kids in ways that no piece of classroom decor will ever do.
So, to everyone on rug-watch this week. I’m here to tell you, Lassen teachers don’t need plush fibers to make magic. They do it every day with or without a carpet and always with extra care, compassion, and a dash of Lassen tough-love humor.
They’re the ones our kids learn and grow on. And nobody does it better and they are why I love where we live.
