Why I love this place Wednesday feels easy this week, coming from picking up sweet Millie (our Rotty) from her appointment to be spayed.
If you know me at all, you know animals are not just pets. They are part of our family, our routines, our chaos, and honestly, our hearts walking around outside of our bodies. And I know that is not just true for my family. It is true for so many people here.
That is why having a place like Lassen Veterinary in Susanville matters so much.
What stands out to me is not just how much they care about the animals, although that is obvious the second you walk in. It is how they care for the people standing there too. They understand that when we walk through those doors, we are usually worried, sometimes overwhelmed, and sometimes facing really hard moments.
They were there for us on some of our worst days. When we had to say goodbye to Tucker (the dog that I brought with me when I moved here) they handled everything with so much care and compassion.
Not long after, when we lost Chunk… Peach’s doggie. They showed up for us again in the same steady, supportive way. Those are days you never forget, but they somehow made them a little more bearable.
And it is not just the hard days. With Sonny and Millie, they have been nothing short of amazing. I called one day completely panicked over what I thought was a tick, and they got him in immediately.
Not later, not squeezed in, but right in. They checked him, reassured me, and took the time to answer every single question without ever making me feel like I was overreacting Not once did they make me feel like I was overreacting. They treated it like it mattered, because to me, it did. (Which was good because your girl was freaking out).
That is what makes them different. They treat every animal like it matters, and every owner like their concerns are valid.
That is what they do so well. They meet you where you are. Whether it is a routine visit, a panicked phone call, or one of the hardest goodbyes you will ever face, they show up with the same level of care, respect, and understanding.
In a place like this, where animals are such a big part of our lives, having people you trust with them is everything. Lassen Veterinary is not just a clinic. It is a place where people and animals are both taken care of in a way that feels genuine and steady and real and one of the reasons I love where we live.
