Why We Love This Place Wednesday: Susanville’s Best of Broadway Part Two

All right Lassen County, let me weigh in on something – part two. Now, the first time I wrote about Susanville’s Best of Broadway it was because I was just a true fan of their performances. This year however, I really wanted to revisit them as a feature because I have been lucky enough to have a firsthand look at the production, as my little Peach is in the show, and it really opened my eyes on so much.

First off, if you have not been able to catch a show, you still have the chance, but you better hurry and buy your tickets because this week is the last week the production will run. A show tonight, Friday night, and two shows this Saturday!

I had no idea the amount of working and planning and prepping, and planning, meetings, and rehearsing, and planning, that goes into this show. But after watching the show, of course it does. It is truly a visually captivating show, all while showcasing the very talented people we have in this community.

No other production in our county, brings together the arts like BoB. I had taken Peach to her rehearsals, but during last week’s shows I was able to watch the other acts… and holy smokes, are they all just awesome. I laughed, I sat in wonder, and I got choked up and goosebumps watching the number “When You Believe.”

Having very little knowledge of any Broadway show did not hinder my ability to enjoy the performances.

Watching the little kids storm the stage in Peter Pan or Willy Wonka, or watching people I work with come to life in their character’s personas was really just so enjoyable to watch.

I was super worried that my beloved husband would be bored watching the other shows that did not contain our daughter, but his review of the show was hysterical and over the top. He loved it!

Proof that it’s a family friendly show, my four-year-old daughter also loved it. She still walks through our house singing/yelling “Frankenstein! Frankenstein!” as it was her favorite number!

We are very blessed, more than I even realized, to have this production in our community. A place for creativity and inclusiveness to grow. The directors and managers are truly the kindest people on the planet, after being in their presence for merely a moment you can tell how much they love and sacrifice for this show!

The friendships and the bonds behind the scenes are very cool to see.  It is no wonder that the cast has become so close and so many of them return year after year. I would strongly recommend you treat yourself and catch one of the remaining shows! You will be sure to recognize various cast members, and be treated to a wonderful production, and you too, will see why Best of Broadway is one of the reasons I love where we live.
