Why We Love This Place Wednesdays: Deputy Shane Parker

And just like that we made it to the end of January already. 2022 has already been a crazy, busy blur for me and I’m sure for most of you it has been the same. As such, I thought it would be fitting to pick a topic/individual who has remained very steady, reliable, and always a reassuring presence in my life, Deputy Shane Parker.

Okay, for the purpose of true clarity, the man drives me absolute nuts. I love him, but he drives me crazy.

Deputy Parker was one of the first Deputies I ever met in Lassen County, and I soon learned that everyone in Lassen County knows Deputy Parker.

When I say Shane has a heart of gold, I mean it.

When I say Shane is the type of person who would give you the shirt of his back, I absolutely mean it.

When I say that he could talk your ear off, I mean it. Hence the drives me crazy part.

However, Deputy Parker is an amazing law enforcement officer, friend, father, and husband. And to be fair to him, if being overly friendly is his only negative quality, I would say he is doing alright.

Deputy Parker will talk to anybody, never leaving anyone out, and willing to be cordial to anyone.

Back when I was brand new at the Police Department and no one knew me, Deputy Parker not only went out of his way to speak to me, but over the years would always assist me whenever I needed anything, even if it meant taking on extra work. The heart on that guy is amazing.

I got to know Shane on a different level four years ago when his daughter entered my explorer program.

I got to see him as a father, and I can tell you this, it is evident he is a great dad. (in case you couldn’t tell by the amazing caliber of a young woman he raised) Shane is involved and loving. I was very impressed seeing him in this new light.

Off-duty and outside of his role as a father, I have been fortunate enough to get to know him as a friend. He is funny, and caring, and always takes the time to ask about my girls. Something I always found very endearing.

Deputy Parker has worked at the Lassen County Sheriff’s Office for as long as I’ve known him, and I’m sure much longer before that. When I’ve spoken to victims on cases that he worked, they all have the same thing to say, that he cared, and he always tried to do the right thing. Two great qualities we want in our LEOS.

He is one of my favorite deputies, and I am so grateful to know him and I’m sure many of you are too. He is one of the reasons I love the place we live.
