Why We Love This Place Wednesdays: Jordan and Megan Sandeen

By Terra Avilla

Behold the beauty of a two-for-one deal. This week, one article and two amazing souls. They just so happen to be sisters, which makes this even sweeter, but perhaps the best part of this deal is that they are my neighbors.

Let me introduce you all to the wonderful Jordan and Megan Sandeen. These wonderful young women, both work in education and have a heart for our youth. And after years of seeing them interact with my children I can tell you that they are in the right field.

Jordan is so sweet and calming, and Megan is very strong and sassy. Both intelligent, kind strong role models for my girls. And I would assume for the other young little girls they encounter as well.

Living next to them over the years these poor girls have been victimized by my children wandering into their yard, picking their flowers, peeping at them through the fence and listening to my oh-so-great parenting skills, (i.e., me yelling like a lunatic for Pearl to stop trying to ride the deer lying in our yard).

I also fully believe that our dogs love Megan and Jordan as they continually escape our yard to go over to them and say hello.

In fact, there was recently a day when Megan ever-so-kindly put our dogs back into our yard twice, before filming how Chunk and Sonny were getting out of our yard so that we could fix the problem.

Kind neighbors, who instead of complaining (which would have been righteous), helped us with a solution.

They are just the sweetest, best neighbors we could ask for.  When I think of small-town living, I think of neighbors who watch out for you, and these two young women, do that.

They are friendly and kind, and when I see them outside, and we speak, they never cease to brighten my day.

I have had the benefit of living next to them for quite some time, but also the privilege of knowing them before they were my neighbors and watching them grow into the miraculous people they are today, warms my heart.

They are hardworking, and loving. They are caring daughters, sisters, and friends.  They clearly love this community and are often out and about volunteering their time to our city.

Megan has a passion for working out and being a healthy model for other women, and Jordan has started baking up a storm (I might pop over to her house sooner rather than later to offer to help taste test her creations).

Being the parents of three little girls, I can tell you how thankful I am that young women like this exist to continue to be role models for our youth. They are fierce, and strong and independent, yet just like Jordan’s cupcakes, they are also sweet and beautiful.

Words cannot express how happy I am to have them in my life, and how grateful they are a part of this community that I love.  I hit the neighbor jackpot, and we should spend today celebrating these two wonderful gals, as two bright spots in our community and two reasons I love the place we live.
