Why We Love This Place Wednesdays: Jennifer Petersen

By Terra Avilla

Jennifer Peterson has a heart for this community. She has a heart for helping people, and luckily for our county, she has a knack for it too. This past week, I had the pleasure of taking a tour of Lassen Intervention.

The owner, and our guide, being the one and only Jennifer. My guess would be that maybe you have heard the name of the business, but if you were like me, had a very low working knowledge of what this wonderful place does.

Their motto is, “Our mission is to promote healthy individuals and families by providing education, advocacy and support.” However, it is evident that they are striving to do so much more.

Lassen Intervention provides educational services to Lassen, Plumas and Sierra Counties. These classes include: Anger/Emotion Management, Batters Intervention Prevention Program, Lassen Youth Wellness Program, a Parenting Solutions Program and Co-parenting classes. As you can see, they offer an eclectic group of services aimed at helping our community.

And Jennifer, being the brilliant mind that she is, has recruited some of the best people in our county to work there, Shayla Ashmore and Elizabeth Darley to name a few.

As she provided a tour of her business, it was obvious this is her passion. Helping people, not becoming a millionaire. Not for notoriety, but to help people. I am a very animated, passionate person, and I feel like I pale in comparison to the amount of enthusiasm Jennifer has when it comes to helping gather resources for our community.

I beg you all to take a look at their website. There lies a detailed course outline of each program they offer, as well as the biographies of the amazing individuals who work there. If you are a parent struggling with your teen, I guarantee Jennifer wants and can help. Maybe you need life and coping skills, Jennifer has a program that will empower you and hold you accountable.

I have been in the criminal justice field for over a decade, and I can tell you, I was very impressed with what I saw.

Jennifer has a true servant’s heart, and a dynamic personality to boot. She is so genuine though, I can see why people would relate to her, and cherish what she has to say.

I first met her through her son, Luke (who I adore) and it was easy to see, that amazing human beings make other amazing human beings. Jennifer is a very loving mother and wife, but also is very open about the complexities of handling both.

Did you know she even is a very distinguished author? Yep. My friend wrote a book about the importance of not comparing yourself to other people and living your own dreams. This woman appears to have more hours in the day than anyone I know.

People with big hearts, like Jennifer, really are a gift to those around them, and I feel incredibly lucky to know her. I cannot wait to see what other amazing things she has on the horizon, for she is one of the reasons I love the place we live.
