Ahh May in Lassen County. The weather warms, the days stay lighter longer, and the school year is winding down. The nights are beginning to warm up, and star gazing season begins. It is by far one of my favorite months. However, I would be a big fat liar if I didn’t say one of the other reasons I love May is that it means one of my all-time favorite events is here… Margarita Fest!
Before I go any further, I want to make it clear that I rarely ever drink, (I do like Margaritas though) however aside from the delicious drinks, I really just enjoy the event for the socialness of it. I enjoy being around our community members and seeing them have fun.
I enjoy having an adult event that provides an opportunity for me and my husband to have some adult time alone.
For those of you who have no idea what I am talking about, I am talking about Soroptimists’ huge fundraiser event. The premise is that different businesses/clubs, restaurants, etc., each have a booth at the event. Each booth tries their best to whip up the best drink.
Guests purchase a card, where they can get a certain number of samples from the booths. The guests can then vote on the booth that they believe had the best margaritas.
Delicious, yes. But the fun part is seeing your family, friends, neighbors at the event. Which by the way – I almost forgot the absolute best part – there is always a live band.
And as if not to be outdone by any other event, the ladies at Soroptimist have added a Nacho bar and a Salsa contest. Seriously. What more could you want to do on a Friday night? Music, Salsa. Nachos. It’s literally a trifecta of three things that make me happy.
Some of my best memories are cutting a rug with my hubby at this event. It’s just a great idea, with great people. The fact that it also is a great fundraiser for one of my favorite non-profits is also just icing on the cake.
If you have never gone, I encourage you to stop by. No drinking necessary! Just come say hello and listen to great music. I have been to many of their events, and I have enjoyed myself at every single one. I encourage you to buy your tickets. This event is a crowd pleaser, it is an annual event that I look forward to every year.
If you can’t get anyone to go with you – just show up, I guarantee you, as is the life we live here in Susanville, the minute you walk in the door, you will see forty other people you know. Just go. Go and dance the night away and have fun at one of my most favorite events that reminds me why I love where we live.
