Susanville Police Chief Tom Downing announced Friday the promotion of long-time Susanville Police Officer Matthew Wood to the position of Police Lieutenant.
Wood fills the second in command vacancy created when Downing was named Chief by the City Council earlier this year.
According to Chief Downing, Lt. Wood began his career in law enforcement as a Correctional Officer with the Lassen County Sheriff’s Office in February of 1993. He came to the Susanville Police Department in December of 1996 as a Police Officer.
In April, 2008 Wood was promoted to the position of Police Sergeant and has worked various assignments including narcotics task force agent, patrol officer and patrol sergeant.
Lt. Wood is in the process of completing his Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice Management at Union Institute and University in Sacramento.
“Lt. Wood’s leadership ability, training and experience have prepared him for this new role,” says Downing, “I have high expectations for Lt. Wood and believe he will be a great addition to the management team.”
