In the shadow of the log building that is as old as our town itself, the great granddaughter of town founder Isaac Roop was honored Monday with the dedication of a park bench, celebrating the ‘Zestful life of a Wonderful Woman.’ Friends and family of Zellamae Miles gathered on the lawn at Roop’s Fort for a simple dedication ceremony.
On the back of the bench is a plaque that reads, “In loving memory of Zellamae Miles, Great Granddaughter of Isaac Roop Founder of Susanville. A wonderful woman with a zestful life.”
“She did live a zestful life,” said Lynda Alberico in a short speech at the dedication, “She touched us all in so many ways.”
The tribute was paid for by members of the many clubs that Miles had been a part of – her rubber stamp group, the Gourmet Gathering, the Tea Club without a name, the Pinochle Club, the Book Club and a group of friends got the money together. The concrete slab the bench sits on was donated by Crazy J’s Concrete.
