Moving to the music to raise funds for a Susanville Community Center is scheduled to take place during a Zumba Dance Party January 25th at 6pm at the Susanville Elk’s Lodge.
Zumba, a trademarked Latin-inspired dance fitness program, was created in the mid 1990s by Alberto “Beto” Perez, according to the Zumba Fitness website, www.zumba.com. The program uses Latin and international music combined with salsa and merengue dance moves to give participants a full aerobic workout.
The event is scheduled to support Lassen D.E.N.( Devoted to Excellence in Neighborhoods, Inc) a non-profit organization created by several community members who have banded together to raise funds for Community Center after seeing the need to provide hub for community resources, activities, and learning.
“I’d love to see a great turnout on Friday for the Zumbathon,” said Emily Strength, Lassen D.E.N. president. “Instructors Lauren Lundquist Morely and Yolanda Smith have put a lot of work into making this thing happen, and we’ve had a great response so far from community members who are excited about helping make Lassen D.E.N. a reality.”
A ZumbathonCharity Event is a 3 hour event hosted by a licensed Zumba Instructor specifically aimed at raising funds for recognized 501(c)(3) charitable organizations, in this case, for Lassen D.E.N. These events include the best Zumba dancing and exercise.
Zumba is normally held at New Image Racket Ball Club Monday, Wednesday and Thursday from 5:10 to 6:10 pm.
“There is just so much energy it’s amazing,” said Robin Merritt who frequents regular Zumba Classes. “You drag yourself there after work feeling down and you feel amazing when you leave.”
“The Zumbathon isn’t just for people who are experienced at Zumba it’s for all ages, all shapes, sizes, and all skill levels of dance,” said Stregnth. “Yolanda is a Zumba Gold instructor, which is specifically for the retired crowd, so her dances will be good for beginners too. ”
Tickets for the Zumbathon Charity Event can now be purchased through Lauren Lundquist-Morley at one of her awesome Zumba classes at New Image Gym as well as at Customer Talk Printable Merchandise.Tickets are $15 in advance and $20 at the door. Tickets can also be purchased at Customer Talk.
“Just come out and have fun, and know that it’s for a great cause! We’ll even have a disco ball and we’re doing a potluck afterwards,” said Stregnth.
