On May 7th, The Soaring Eagle Blue Star Moms hosted their inaugural, ‘Saluting Graduates who will be Saluting soon’ at the Veterans Memorial Hall.
A tri-tip dinner was provided for the 2018 High School graduates who have signed letters of intent to enter into the Armed Forces after graduation.
National 3rd Vice President of the Blue Star Mothers of America, Christine Boyd, welcomed the graduates and their families.
“I am proud to live in the hometown of the brave,” said Boyd.
The National Anthem was sung by Emily Vorlicky and Lassen County Veterans Service Officer, Chris Mancebo, spoke to the crowd of over 50, telling the graduates, “If you are feeling weak, like you cannot complete the task or overcome these obstacles in life, you are wrong, you have the strength not only of body, mind and character. They only need to be shown to you, and then built upon. We want you to succeed! To overcome! To have integrity! You are the few among many, the brave amongst the fearful, and the ones whom for better or for worse, remember, you are the ones who stood up to protect others.”
Blue Star Mother member Christy Rose conducted the presentation of graduates.
The graduates honored were:
Cameron Ingwerson: United States Marine Corps
Xylan Ladista: United States Army
Matthew Lane: United States Air Force
Keith McDaniel: United States Marine Corps
Blake Schuyler: United States Army
Madisen Wallace: United States Navy
Matthew Lane’s family was honored but he was not in attendance, due to graduating early and entering into the Air Force.
Boyd and the Blue Star Mothers thanked the graduates for their dedication, commitment and willingness to serve.
