Chamber of Commerce Update for December 13th, 2011

Congratulations to the 2012 Chamber officers elected at the December board meeting; President- Ed Swayze, owner Customer Talk Printable Merchandise, Vice President- Jessika Johnson, she is the Community Relations Director at Eagle Lake Village , and returning for another term as Treasurer- Jeff Trump of  Haws, Theobald, and Auman, CPA’s.

Thank you to outgoing President Chuck Downs, owner of Susanville Subways, for his service to the Chamber this past year.

Mark your calendar to attend the Lassen Co. Chamber of Commerce 124th Annual Chamber Membership Dinner and Awards Night, which will be held on Friday, January 27, 2012 at Eagle Lake Village.

The Chamber board is seeking nominations for “Chamber Member of the Year”, “Chamber Business of the Year”, and “Volunteer of the Year”. Please submit your written nomination for any of these awards by Monday, January 9, 2012 to the Chamber office located at 75 N. Weatherlow Street.

The Lassen Business and Career Network, in partnership with the Lassen County Department of Health and Social Services, have funding available to assist with the cost of hiring employees.

Lassen “Hire Now” funding is available to private employers in Lassen County for hourly wage reimbursement of up to 50% per employee. In addition you can receive assistance with recruitment and screening of qualified job candidates, and individual support for both the employer and the employee. Small businesses that are in the LMUD’s service area may qualify for free energy audits, efficient lighting, and refrigeration upgrades thru  the “Smart Business” program.  For details about the program contact LMUD’s Energy Services Manager, Theresa Phillips, at 257-6944.

Alliance for Workforce Development, in partnership with the Lassen County Economic Development Micro-Enterprise Grant Program, is offering Lassen County entrepreneurs and small businesses customized free training services. One-on-one assistance, group workshops, and technical assistance is available specific to your business needs.

To participate, Lassen County businesses need to have 5 or fewer employees (including owners) and meet income eligibility requirements.  Samples of assistance include, but are not limited to, advertising/marketing, time management, business planning, bookkeeping/QuickBooks, and customer service.
