CHP Incident: Chip Truck Catches Fire On Highway 36 Near 101 Ranch

Highway 36 near Goodrich Creek and the 101 Ranch was shut down for a brief time Friday after a big-rig hauling a chip trailer caught fire on the side of the roadway.

According to details released by the Susanville office of the California Highway Patrol, at around 2:30 Greenville resident Brian Looney was driving a 2010 International eastbound, pulling a loaded possum-belly chip trailer for Clear Creek Reload LLC of Chester.

Because the big-rig was showing signs of overheating Looney stopped on the highway shoulder near the 101 Ranch.

For unknown reasons a fire ignited near the engine compartment. The driver escaped and the cab of the truck was fully engulfed before firefighters arrived on scene and extinguished the blaze.

The trailer was not damaged and no injuries were reported.
