Debris, Used Auto Parts and Tires Burn in Commercial Road Fire

A fire that started late Thursday afternoon in debris along Commercial Road near McGowan Lane in Susanville sent a plume of thick black smoke into the air that was visible throughout the Honey Lake Valley before firefighters got the upper hand on the blaze.

According to Lassen County OES Chief Mark Rotlisberger the fire burned in debris on the property, setting a small pile of tires on fire, but firefighters quickly stopped it from spreading to adjacent structures and vegetation.

Agencies responding to the incident included Susan River Fire District, Lassen OES, Cal-FIRE, Susanville Fire Department, CDCR Fire, Standish/Litchfield Fire, Janesville Fire, Milford Fire, Lassen County Sheriff’s Office.

Susan River Fire District Chief Jim Uruburu thanked crews that helped at the scene, including Stoneco Construction and Susanville Towing.
