Driver Suffers Moderate Injuries in Wendel Road Rollover

A Susanville man was transported to Banner Lassen with moderate injuries Sunday morning after his vehicle overturned on Wendel Road.

According to details released by the Susanville office of the California Highway Patrol, a man identified as 43-year old Casey Walsh was driving his 2006 Toyota Tacoma Pickup west on Wendel Road at around 55 mph when he became fatigued and fell asleep, causing his truck to veer onto the eastbound shoulder.

“Mr. Walsh was suddenly awakened and attempted to steer his truck back onto the road,” explained CHP Public Information Officer Kristin Wilburn. “This caused the Toyota to veer across Wendel Road and onto the westbound shoulder.”

The Toyota overturned and the force of this collision caused Walsh to be thrown into the back seat area of his Toyota.

He was able to call 911, and self extricate himself from his pickup.

Personnel from Sierra Army Depot Fire Department, Standish Litchfield Fire Department and the California Highway Patrol along with SEMSA responded to the scene.

The California Highway Patrol would like to remind everyone to always wear a seatbelt when driving or as a passenger on the roadways.
