A fundraiser has been organized to help 15-year old Lassen High student Honesty Drake and her family as she deals with treatment and travel expenses associated with her recent diagnosis of phase 3 undifferentiated pleomorphic sarcoma in her knee. Honesty recently finished radiation treatments at UC Davis.
“I have gone through 5 weeks of radiation therapy on the tumor in my knee,” Honesty explains in an open letter. “My type of cancer is pretty rare, there are only a few thousand cases each year. Since it is so rare there isn’t very much research on it but since the doctors said that it is localized at this time.”
Honesty says that she has chosen not to do chemotherapy along with radiation.
“The next step is to just have the tumor removed with surgery this September and continue having routine check ups to make sure the cancer does not spread anywhere else. I received my radiation treatment at UC Davis at Sacramento and that is where I will also have my surgery.”
The benefit dinner will be held September 21st, and organizers are looking for raffle items to be used during the evening.
