Part-time Position

Starting Pay: $20.00 – $22.23

Job Description: Under the supervision of the Direct Services Program Supervisor, and partnered with Family Solutions, the Parent Partner is responsible for supporting and offering guidance to parents and guardians or caretaker of a child who has received services from a child-serving agency.  

Reports to: Direct Services Program Supervisor

Job Classification: Non-exempt, Non-Supervisory

Essential Duties and Responsibilities May Include:

• Family Solutions” Parent Partner’s will attend Service Allocation Team meetings (SAT). The purpose of these meetings: to discuss new possible intakes, to listen to reports on Family Solutions families, and discuss matters that pertain to clients already involved in the program. Due to HIPAA laws, our discussions at this time must be done carefully, without mentioning client’s names or personal information.
  • Parent Partner’s will participate in team discussion regarding recommendations of the team.
  • At Client Family Team meetings, (CFT) Parent Partner’s will provide peer support, facilitate parent participation in case plan activities, and promote positive communication between families and plan providers.
• Parent Partner’s will attend Client Family Team (CFT) meetings, to advocate for parents and help them to create the formulating of a plan that will be suitable for the family.  The plan will give the families a “voice and choice” in the services that they need.  The purpose of these meetings is to empower families to engage in their own family plan. The Parent Partner will need to speak on behalf of the parents if they see that their voices are not being heard during these meetings.  The Parent Partner is an advocate for the parents but must act as a team member and present themself in a professional manner to other team members. The Parent Partner’s story is also especially important in helping parents to realize that they can successfully achieve their goals.
  • Parent Partner’s will explain “Family Solutions” to families.
  • Parent Partner’s will assist their family while in (CFT) meetings to speak for themselves and connect with natural and community support systems such as: family, counselor, minister, friends, or other.
  • Parent Partner’s will help their family while in (CFT) meetings in building their strengths.  Give them encouragement.
  • Parent Partners will be available for advocacy and support by phone and in personal home visits.
  • Parent Partners will report to their immediate supervisor on case management, team decisions or problems, and provide written ‘Service Provided Sheets’ on all team services, especially by Lassen Family Services for billing.

Skills and Abilities:

• Have the ability to take personal responsibility in working with families, team members, and all others involved in “Family Solutions” or Integrated Child Protective Services.
• Communicate effectively.
• Be a positive role model.
• Ability to type 35 wpm.
• Remain unbiased and objective toward parents, Lassen Family Services, other “Family Solutions” team members, Child and Family Services, and all other service agencies.
• Work as a team player.

Knowledge of:

• Community organizations that provide social services and support.
• Service assessment methods and techniques.
• Teamwork and application.
• Cultural competency and application.
• Office equipment including faxes, copiers, computers, printers, cell phones, etc.
• Windows-based office technologies including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
• Record keeping.
• Data, Documentation and Client advocacy.
• Domestic violence training, Sexual Assault/Rape Crisis training, Child Abuse/Neglect, Crisis Intervention procedures.
• HIPAA standards.
• Professional ethics, Mandated Reporting, and other training deemed necessary by the Executive Director of Lassen Family Service, Patient Advocate/Mental Health  Mental Health, or Parent Partner supervisor.

Training/Experience/Education: Any combination of training, experience, and education which would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying.  A typical way to obtain the required knowledge and abilities would be completion of Lassen Family Services’, Inc. Crisis Intervention Peer Counseling Training, and a High School Diploma.  Preferred two years’ experience in providing education or social services is highly desirable. Personal life experience and successful completion of similar parenting program is important expectation for this position. The Parent Partner will have successfully completed one or more life experiences of receiving services, such as: Alcohol & Drug, Child Protective Services, Youth Probation, Foster care, or other. The Parent Partner must be willing to share the life experiences with other parents who become involved in “Family Solutions.”  Assigned Personnel (Parent Partners) for part-time position must be screened and selected according to ability to work with other team members and act as advocate for each “Family Solutions” family. Technical training and education will be considered in addition to the above-mentioned qualifications.

Typical Physical Requirements: (Reasonable accommodations will be made for otherwise qualified applicants unable to fulfill one or more of these requirements): Sits for extended periods; frequently stands, walks, stoops, kneels and crouches to pick-up and/or move objects, may occasionally lift and/or move objects weighing up to 25 pounds; normal manual dexterity and eye-hand coordination; and corrected hearing and vision to normal range.

Typical Working Conditions: Work is performed in a variety of environments including the Shelter, Lassen Family Services business office, participants’ homes, and other community organizations; requires frequent driving to different locations and sites throughout the service area; frequent contact and communication with other staff, the public, shelter residents and representatives of other agencies; work hours may be variable and outside the normal 8 am to 5 pm workday to meet the requirements of the position; incumbents are expected to be available on stand-by for crisis intervention responses at any time during specifically assigned time periods.

Special Requirements:

• Possession of a valid California Driver’s License and insurance with acceptable DMV Record.
• Acceptable State and FBI criminal background check.
• Possession of, or ability to obtain, CPR certification.
• Successful completion of the Crisis Intervention Peer Counseling Training provided by Lassen Family Services, Inc.
• Other outside training required of Parent Partners may be provided by: Health and Human Services as available in Lassen County or other as offered.
