Kitchen Fire Quickly Extinguished in Riverside Drive Apartment

A stovetop fire in the kitchen of a Riverside Drive residence was quickly knocked down and extinguished by firefighters Saturday evening, leaving heavy smoke damage throughout the apartment.

Shortly before 10:00p.m., the Susanville Fire Department was dispatched to a multi-family residential structure fire at 1626 Riverside Drive.

“Upon arrival, E-621 observed a single-story multi-family residential structure with light smoke showing from the front door of a single Apartment,” details SFD Captain Andrew Jarrett.

“E-621 assumed Incident Command and initiated fire suppression efforts. Riverside IC requested T-1 to continue to the scene and canceled all other incoming units.”

The crew from Truck One was assigned to suppression efforts and the fire was quickly knocked down and extinguished.

“The fire cause and origin investigation was conducted while the overhaul operation was in progress. The structure was occupied by a single tenant. The fire originated on the stovetop in the kitchen and extended to the ceiling and the floor. Smoke damage was heavy throughout the apartment. The investigation of the initial cause of the fire is ongoing at this time.”

There were no firefighter or civilian injuries reported.

The SFD was supported by the Susanville Police Department, Lassen County Sheriff’s Office and Lassen Municipal Utility District.
