Lassen County Chamber of Commerce Update for January 29th

Come out for the Lassen County Chamber of Commerce February Chamber Mixer hosted by Eagle Lake Village Senior Living Community on Thursday, February 15th from 5:30 to 7:30p.m. located at 2001 Paul Bunyan Road, Susanville. Bring your family and friends for an evening of fun, food, drinks, prizes, and good company. Everyone is welcome, you do not have to be a Chamber member to attend. Lassen News will be hosting a local Candidate Forum at 6:00p.m. Monday, January 29th at Jensen Hall. The event is free, and the public is invited to attend. All the candidates for the following races have been invited to attend — Susanville City Council, Lassen County Board of Supervisors and Lassen County Superior Court Judge. Lassen News Publisher Sam Williams will serve as the moderator. Members of the public may submit questions that will be addressed to all candidates for a particular office at the event or by email to [email protected]. Join Lassen Family Services on Monday, January 29th from 3:00 to 5:00p.m., for their monthly Cooking Class on A Budget. Enjoy a free demonstration and a warm delicious meal while learning ways to stay on a budget when it comes to grocery shopping and meal prepping. In this class they will be making chicken broccoli rice casserole. All are welcome. Located at 1306 Riverside Drive in Susanville. For more information call 530.257.4599.

Susanville Symphony’s Academy of Music will be holding registration and first rehearsal on January 30th from 4:30 to 6:00p.m., at Richmond Elementary School Gym. They will be offering 2 classes, Strings, and Winds/Percussion – 1 year experience required. Semester tuition is $75. Please join Lassen Library for a Valentine’s Day and Tooth fairy themed event, Family Literacy Day. Sunday, February 3rd at 10:00a.m., at the Lassen Library. Join the Family Literacy program for kindergarten readiness skills. Geared towards families with children 0-5 years old, join us for stories, activities, and free books to help your child learn to love reading! The day will include Storytime with the Tooth Fairy, fun crafts, free dental supplies, trivia and games. Please RSVP to Maribel at 530.257.7471 or email [email protected].

For the month of February, the Lassen County Probation Department’s Appreciation Hearts fundraiser will give community members a chance to send a ‘bucket of hearts’ to a person they appreciate, while contributing to a great cause! Money raised will help sponsor community events such as Stuff the Bus and Holiday with a Hero. Cash payments are also accepted at 2950 Riverside Drive in Susanville. Delivery is only available in Lassen County.

Lassen Youth Fastpitch Softball Registration. All signups will be held at the Comfort Inn breakfast room. Signups close February 21st. Must be 4 by January 1, 2024. Regular Signups will be February 1st from 5:00 to 7:00p.m. and February 17th from 10:00 to 12:00p.m. The cost to register is $90 with $10 off for siblings. The Northern California Cancer Advocates 2nd Annual Crab Feed will be at the Diamond Mountain Willow Room at the Diamond Mountain Casino & Hotel. Live entertainment will be after dinner. Tickets are $60 and includes salad, soup, and Dungeness crab. Doors open at 5:30p.m. Dinner served at 6:30p.m. Tickets can be purchased at the Lassen Federal Credit Union, Lassen County Chamber of Commerce, or any NCCA Volunteer. Alcohol sold separately (Must be 21+), Tickets are on sale. Buy yours now, before they sell out.

Lassen County Cattlemen and Cattlewomen presents the 35th Annual Taste of Beef, Sip of Wine event, Saturday, February 10th, 2024, at the Lassen County Fairgrounds, Jensen Hall. Tickets on Sale Now. lassencountycattlewomen.ticketspice.com/a-taste-of-beef-sip-of-wine

The Children’s Fair will be held on Saturday, May 4th, from 10:00 until 3:00p.m., at the Lassen County Fairgrounds. There will be live entertainment throughout the day, including dancers from local dance studios and costumed characters. Static displays of emergency vehicles and other fun things for kids to see will be around each corner at the fairgrounds. Dandy the Smokeless Dragon will be there, and Lassen Youth Football and Star Elite Cheer, Lassen Youth Soccer and the Lassen Aquatics will also be participating in the event. Admission is free. Lassen County 4-H Presentation Day is Sunday, February 25th at Jensen Hall, Lassen County Fair Grounds. Registration is at 1:00p.m. Entry deadline is February 15th. Presentation Day 2024 will be hosted by Milford 4-H and South County 4-H again this year. Please adhere to the registration deadline. Primary member presentations will be limited to 10 minutes. The 35th Lassen Jr. Fishing Derby has been set for Saturday, May 18th. Coveted prizes donated by community businesses and locals are handed out to the biggest catch of the day in each age group, along with sportsmanship awards.

Lassen Library presents their January Craft Days and Storytimes on Tuesdays and Wednesdays at 11:00a.m. Tuesday, January 30th is Pajamas Craft Day and Wednesday, January 31st is Pajama Party Storytime.

All new for 2024. The Bizz Running Company is introducing the Bizz Johnson Express Half Marathon Relay. Bring your best running friend and run this fast half marathon course. Leg 1 starts with the Express Half Marathon and completes the first 7 miles. After going underneath Highway 36 and back up the other side, you’ll hand off to Leg 2 who will cruise the last 6.1 miles to the Finish Line at Hobo Camp.
