Lassen Family Services is partnering with See’s Candy to help raise funds for the creation of a new Parenting Program at the organization.
“We are raising money to fund a parent support group which would support all families in their journey to empowerment,” explains Parent Educator Rikki Bird.
“As the Parent Program has expanded, we have noticed some families are slipping through the cracks. We find it important that all parents have a safe place to develop support within each other.”
The support group would help with healthy parenting skills, an increased sense of empowerment, and a feeling of belonging.
“We would expand even more to helping parents of young ones, teens, and children with special needs. One of the biggest benefits of a group setting, is realizing that other parents struggle with the same issues. Parenting in today’s fast paced world, with both parents often working full time and many parents raising children alone, is challenging under any circumstance.”
According to Bird the Parenting Program will be partnering with Lassen County Public Health, MCHH, Lassen Hearts to host Parent Cafés.
Parent Cafés are a place parents can get together and discuss different topics, concerns, worries, fears and wisdom in a comfortable atmosphere. This will also allow the opportunity to connect with the services offered to parents within the community.
“One of the greatest attributes of this program,” says Bird, “is that it will be available to not just biological parents but to foster parents, stepparents, grandparents, etc.. I am passionate about this support group because as a mother of 3 beautiful children and a bonus mom to an amazing son, there have been times I could have used a support group like the one we are raising funds for. I want the community to know that all will be welcome.”
