For a quarter of a century now Lassen Family Services and the California Correctional Center have worked together to bring our community the annual Victims of Crime Hobby Craft Fair and Auction at the Lassen County Fairgrounds. The money raised by the sale of handcrafted wooden items made by inmates and staff from the Correctional Center and 18 northern California conservation camps benefits victims of crime here in Lassen County.
As Lassen Family Services and CCC reach this 25-year milestone they have an impressive goal – raising $25,000 to help victims of crime. In the last 15 years the Hobby Craft Fair has generated just over $125,000 from community donations and craft fair sales and this year the organization hopes to set a new record with a much larger selection of hobby crafts than ever before.
And talk about unique gifts! You can find something for everyone while helping out a good cause; clocks, toys, belt buckles, redwood jewelry boxes, benches, picnic tables and a redwood playhouse are just some of the handmade items.
Camp inmates donated their own time and supplies to produce craft items.
All of the donated hobby crafts will be displayed at the fairgrounds this Friday and Saturday as part of the Lassen County Fair’s holiday craft fair; on Friday, December 5th from 4:00 to 8:00p.m. and Saturday, December 6th from 10:00a.m. to 3:00p.m. The live auction begins at 1:00 Saturday afternoon.
