Susanville Man in Firing Test
April 17, 1958

First Lt. Preston E. Vandeburgh, son of Mr. and Mrs. Preston O. Vandeburgh, Star Route 3, Susanville, Calif., recently participated with the 10th Anti-aircraft Artillery Missile Battalion in annual firing tests at the Red Canyon Range in New Mexico.

During the tests, missiles were fired at high-flying drone aircraft. The results of the tests serve as a basis for operational improvements.

Lieutenant Vandeburgh is regularly assigned as executive officer in the battalion’s Battery A at Fairfield Air Force Base, Wash. He entered the army in July 1956.

The 31-year-old officer is a graduate of Lassen union high school and was employed by Shasta Forest Company in civilian life. His wife, Starr, is with him at Fairchild Air Force base.
