Lassen Fights For Main Line
September 11, 1926

With the advent of a freight stage line, operating between Susanville and Reno on a regular schedule, it is almost residents of Lassen County will continue their fight to put Susanville on the main line of the Southern Pacific Company in the proposed broad-gauging of the Nevada-California and Oregon railway.

Representatives were sent to a hearing last year at Klamath Falls with the idea of securing the main line north through Susanville. No encouragement was given the delegates and residents have been looking forward to an announcement from Southern Pacific headquarters as to the final plans of the northern extension to Alturas and Klamath Falls.

In the meantime, Ginnochio Brothers of Reno installed a freight line between Reno, Susanville and intermediate points. Plans are now underway to have through freight rates put in tariffs between Sacramento, Oakland, Stockton, San Francisco and other Coats and intermediate points via Western Pacific to Doyle and stage to Susanville
