The Susanville Monticola Club hosted its second annual Mother’s Day brunch on May 11th with nearly 100 guests at two sittings enjoying egg casseroles, freshly scrambled eggs, bacon, crepes, fresh fruit salad, scones, a selection of desserts and two kinds of mimosas.
The event was held in the Monticola Clubhouse on South Lassen Street which was decorated with fresh sunflowers in vintage teapots and vases on each table.
Elise Giles’s lovely piano playing entertained guests for the first half, and the guitar music of Tom Braun and voice of Julianne Pepetone for the second half.
Club members were assisted by five young women high school students with kitchen duties, serving tea and coffee and with clean up. Robin and Alex Barrett, Autry Satica, Caitlin Crosby and Ronnie Merrill each volunteered for more than four hours.
The brunch is the major fundraiser for the Monticola Club and supports Monticola scholarships at Lassen High School and Lassen College. This year the club is planning to purchase an additional table, seating and an umbrella for the Community Swimming Pool.
Monticola Club is a women’s community service organization founded in 1912, and members have focused on a variety of community service projects including the library, beautification projects, health and safety issues.
