The National Weather Service office in Reno has issued a Red Flag Warning for gusty winds and low humidity, which is in effect from 11:00this morning until 11:00p.m., Thursday.
Affected Areas include eastern Lassen County, the western Nevada Sierra Front, west central Nevada Basin and Range and northern Washoe County below 6,000 feet.
Winds are expected to be out of the southwest at 15 to 25 mph with gusts around 40 to 45 mph this afternoon. Gusts of 30 to 40 mph are forecast for Thursday afternoon.
Humidity is forecast to drop to between 8 and 15 percent for 4 to 8 hours each day and the combination of gusty winds and low humidity can cause fire to rapidly grow in size and intensity, mainly in locations with dry fine fuels, grasses and shrubs.
The National Weather Service recommends that you avoid outdoor activities that can cause a spark near dry vegetation, such as yard work, target shooting, or campfires.
