The National Weather Service in Reno has issued a Winter Storm Watch, warning residents to expect snow, wind and slippery road conditions beginning this afternoon and lasting until late Thursday.
Total snow accumulations of 1 to 3 inches, with 2 to 8 inches west of highway 395, are possible.
Areas affected include Surprise Valley, Lassen, eastern Plumas, eastern Sierra and northern Washoe County.
Snow levels will start at 6,000 feet this afternoon and rapidly fall to all valley floors overnight into early Thursday morning.
Now is the time to prepare an emergency kit for your home and car. If traveling consider alternate plans, remember to carry tire chains, extra food, water and clothing. Once the storm arrives, travel may be difficult or impossible for an extended period of time.
