An altercation in the 700 block of Shasta Street Tuesday led to gunfire and sent one man to the hospital according to details released by the Susanville Police Department this afternoon.
Officers from the department responded to a residence on Shasta Street at around 6:00p.m., after receiving a report that multiple gunshots had been fired in the area. When they arrived officers learned that two male subjects had been involved in an altercation that ended in gunfire.
One of the subjects fled in a vehicle before police arrived, striking a parked vehicle as he left the scene.
A short time later officers responded to Banner Lassen Medical Center where a gunshot victim had been admitted to the Emergency Room.
According to police the victim reported that he was shot in his vehicle while driving in the area of Shasta Street and South Railroad Avenue by an unknown person. The gunshot victim was later flown to Renown Medical Center for treatment of a single bullet wound to the right thigh and a grazing wound to his left thumb.
“Based on the investigation and the information gathered,” said Police Lieutenant Matt Wood, “it appears that the two subjects involved in the altercation were familiar with each other.”
Details of the shooting are still being actively investigated by the department as they ascertain what took place before gunfire broke out.
