A SusanvilleStuff Photofeature
For nearly 50 years, beginning with the passage of the first emigrants through the Honey Lake Valley in the 1850’s, Susanville has celebrated America’s independence with great fanfare – from lighting firecrackers and firing anvils to holding day-long parties featuring picnics, baseball and parades.
Susanville held yearly 4th of July parades up until Red River Lumber company built the town of Westwood in 1913, at which point the two towns would switch off annual parade duties.
Join us now for a holiday trip back through time courtesy of a Couso family photo album… had SusanvilleStuff been around 110 years ago I’m sure our gallery would have looked something like this.
Happy Fourth of July everybody… and Happy Birthday America!
