Quick Thinking Susanville Police Officer Nabs Out-of-Compliance Sex Offender

An out-of-compliance sex offender was arrested Thursday after a Susanville Police Officer noticed that he was living at a location that did not match with his current mandatory registration.

“While handling a call for service, a Susanville Police Officer saw something out of place in regards to the person he had contacted,” explains Chief Kevin Jones.

“Officer Kevin Singletary was handling a random call for service when he saw a person he believed was a required sex registrant. He suspected the person’s address on file for his registration was not consistent with his current residence.”

After some investigation, Singletary discovered that 32-year old Susanville resident Jedediah Severs, who according to Jones is a registered sex offender, was residing at a location that did not match his current registered residence.

Sex registrants are required to notify the appropriate law enforcement agency of their current residence within five days of any change.

Severs was arrested for violation of the mandatory sex registrant requirements and was booked into the Lassen County Jail where he was held on $10,000 bail.

“This is Officer Singletary’s second arrest in a week for non-compliance with California’s mandatory Sexual Registration law – both proactively,” said Chief Jones.

“The SPD recognizes and thanks Officer Singletary for his efforts and pride in his community.”
