Sheriff Growdon Retires After Thirty Years in Lassen Law Enforcement

By Jeremy Couso

After thirty years of serving in local law enforcement, Lassen County Sheriff-Coroner Dean Growdon, who was first elected to the position back in 2010, officially retired on December 27th, saying that ā€œAfter much heartfelt thought, prayer, and family deliberation, I have decided that the time has come for me to retire.ā€

LCSO Captain Mike Carney will serve as interim Sheriff until the Lassen County Board of Supervisors names a permanent replacement to serve out Growdonā€™s term.

Sheriff Growdon said that the decision to retire was hard one to make for several reasons – his love of the community, his dedicated staff and the overwhelming support of the community for local law enforcement all made the choice a difficult one.

He started his law enforcement career with the LCSO in 1994 and was elected Sheriff in 2010, 2014, 2018, and 2022.

ā€œWhen you serve in the public safety profession, your family and your health often take a back seat to your duty to serve the community,ā€ Growdon said.

ā€œAt this point in my life, I recognize the need to focus on my health and my family. Without the support of my family, I wouldnā€™t have been able to accomplish what I have. I want to specifically thank my wife Carol, and our sons Neil and Logan for the sacrifices they have made, and their steadfast love and support over the years.ā€

ā€œI will miss serving alongside the incredible men and women of the Lassen County Sheriffā€™s Office and appreciate their dedication to our profession and community more than I could ever express. Lassen County is fortunate to have fine men and women who are willing to serve in such a challenging environment.ā€

Growdon said he and Carol plan on staying here in Lassen County.
