Sheriff Releases More Details in Meinert Death: Asks For Public’s Help

pic 3sheriffupdate4The Lassen County Sheriff’s Office is seeking the community’s assistance with the death investigation of Janesville veterinarian Richard Meinert whose body was discovered early Monday morning in his Janesville clinic.

“While still under investigation, the death of Richard Meinert at the Thompson Peak Veterinary Clinic is being pursued as a possible homicide,” explained Captain Kevin Jones. “We are currently seeking information to help identify people who may have been involved in this case.”

“We have reason to believe the person or people involved in this death were wearing a unique style hat in the commission of the crime,” continued Jones.

Jones also reminded the public that many of these hats have been sold in and out of our area. Mere possession of this type of hat does not automatically make anyone a suspect.

“However, we are interested in people who have seen people wearing this hat in the recent past,” said Jones.

The hat is a black ‘flat bill’ type hat with red/black lettering, a red back strap and sticker on the bill.

Anyone with information regarding this case is urged to contact the Lassen County Sheriff’s Office at (530) 257-6121.
