SPD K-9 Unit Discovers Meth During Early Morning Traffic Stop

Zeke, the Susanville Police Department’s K-9 officer, was instrumental in the arrest of a Susanville man after a search of a vehicle during an early morning traffic stop revealed methamphetmaines and drug packaging materials.

SPD officers made an enforcement stop of the vehicle on Main Street Friday morning for various vehicle code violations.

“Investigation revealed the driver, Matthew Svendsen, age 33, had a suspended license,” detailed Susanville Police Chief Kevin Jones.

SPD’s K-9 Zeke was also participating in the enforcement stop.

“Zeke performed an exterior sniff of the vehicle and showed action that indicates an alert. A subsequent search of the vehicle resulted in the discovery of drug packaging materials, a scale, several hypodermic needles and almost an ounce of methamphetamine.”

Svendsen was arrested and booked into the Lassen County Jail on drug charges and a violation of driving on a suspended license.

“Job well done to Zeke and our Officers!” said Chief Jones.
