How dry is it here in Lassen County? According to measurements made by Dr. Owen Bateson we have only received .23 of an inch of measurable precipitation so far during the month of December.
“Our average for the month is 3.69 inches,” explains Bateson, “which gives us only 6% of average for the month.”
Since July first Bateson has recorded 4.55 inches of moisture, a total representing only 51% of average for the year.
“I have only measured 7.98 inches of moisture since last January,” says Bateson, “If the fiscal year began in January and not July, the average for this past 12 months would be only 37% and would tie 1987-88 for the driest year on record at least since 1980.”
