A late night traffic stop on Elm Street in Westwood led to the arrest of a Westwood man after Lassen County Sheriff’s Deputies found a large amount of drugs and cash in the vehicle he was driving.
According to detail released by the Sheriff’s Office, at about 9:40p.m. on October 15th, a deputy made a traffic stop on a white Toyota pickup for several traffic violations and, during the stop, saw that the driver was in possession of an open container of an alcoholic beverage and marijuana cigarettes.
The driver was detained and a search of the vehicle was conducted.
“During a search of the vehicle,” explains LCSO Lieutenant Dave Woginrich, “the deputy located and seized 54.5 grams (1.92 ounces) of methamphetamine, 39.6 grams (1.4 ounces) of heroin, drug paraphernalia and $1,664.00 in cash.”
According to Woginrich the street value of the methamphetamine and heroin is estimated to be over $6,000.
The driver, identified as 28-year old William Mackenzie,Ā was arrested and booked into the Lassen County Jail on charges of Possession of a Controlled Substance, Possession of a Controlled Substance for Sale, Transportation of a Controlled Substance, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia and Unlawful Display of False Registration. Mackenzieās bail is set at $55,000.
