The body of a missing Westwood woman was recovered early Friday morning near Hamilton Branch according to details released this afternoon by the Plumas County Sheriff’s Office.
The woman, identified as 20-year old Westwood resident Kelsey Powles, had been reported missing Thursday afternoon, and her vehicle was located stuck in a ditch along Highway 147 in the area of Hamilton Branch. Plumas County Search and Rescue was activated and responded to the area where they conducted an area search until late Thursday night.
The body of the missing woman was found early Friday morning as Search and Rescue was activated again to continue the search.
Powles was located in the area of her vehicle.
“Contrary to some reports she was not located in the water,” explained Plumas Sheriff Greg Hagwood in the report.
“The cause of death is currently under investigation and detectives are responding to the scene.”
Anyone with information, or who had seen Powles on either the 17th or 18th, is encouraged to call the Plumas Sheriff’s Office at 530-283-6300.
