Cardio Open House at Banner Lassen

Banner Lassen Medical Center is celebrating Heart Awareness month with a Cardiac Open House February 3rd, from 2:00-4:00p.m. February 3rd is also National ‘Wear Red Day’ and the hospital has put together a variety of activities to promote heart health and heart disease awareness.

The event will include Heart Health Education, Free Blood Pressure Checks and information on the Cardiac Services at Banner Lassen Medical Center. Anyone who attends the event wearing red will be entered to win a generous gift basket from the hospital gift shop.

“Taking advantage of a free blood pressure checks and knowing your numbers could be the first step to preventing or detecting heart disease,” said Cherie Lujano Education Manager and RN at Banner Lassen. “During this event, you can get a free blood pressure check, learn to recognize the warning signs, and then take the information to your doctor,” she said.

Lassen County Department of Public Health will also be providing a demonstration on Automated External Defibrillators. AEDs make it possible for non-medical rescuers to deliver potentially lifesaving defibrillation to victims of sudden cardiac arrest.

“We are hoping a demonstration will help people understand how to use an AED and help save more lives,” said Christie Myers from the Department of Public Health. “It is especially useful if you work in the education system or anywhere with the public,” she said.

The department of Public Health has made it possible by the end of February 2012 an AED stationed in every public school in Lassen County.

The event will take place in the Lassen Shasta room at Banner Lassen Medical Center and light refreshments will be served.

“We are excited to be offering this event, encouraging the community to become aware, and educating them on the services we offer here at Banner Lassen Medical Center, “said JoAnn Mahloch, Cardiac Manager at Banner Lassen Medical Center.

If it is determined you have high blood pressure and you might be in need of Cardiac Services, Banner Lassen Medical Center works in collaboration with the Renown Institute for Heart & Vascular Health, the region’s leader in heart care, along with Sierra Nevada Cardiology Associates and Reno Heart Physicians, two premier cardiology practices.
