Chief Moore Suspends Burn Permits City-Wide as Fire Season Approaches

In conjunction with Cal-FIRE’s Lassen Modoc Unit, Susanville City Fire Chief James Moore has officially suspended all burn permits and open burning within the city.

The suspension takes effect immediately and bans all residential outdoor burning of landscape debris, branches, leaves and any other type of open burning.

“This declaration of suspension of all burn permits has come to fruition as California moves into the third consecutive dry year,” explains Chief Moore.

“In preparation for another devastating fire season due to climate trend, reduced fuel moistures, staffing reductions, and potential for rapid and large fire growth with each new start; we will prepare for another fire season, in hope it does not come.”

According to Moore, last year was the most devastating and destructive fire season California has experienced, fire directly threatened our city and surrounding communities.

“My desire is that our community stands ready. With conditions set for an early fire season, we can minimize the damaging effects of wildfire through education, prevention, and mitigation efforts.”
