CHP: Accident on US 395 Near Milford Grade Sends Three to Renown

A Susanville woman and her two passengers were flown by air ambulance to Renown Medical Center in Reno Thursday after the 2002 Honda Accord they were in collided with a big-rig driven by Lynden, Washington resident Gurpal Singh.

According to the California Highway Patrol 19 year-old Kodi Baublit, the driver of the Honda, was southbound on US-395 south of Milford Grade on her way to the Wemple Ranch about 6:24p.m.

She had reportedly missed the turnoff and was going to make a U-turn and go back northbound.

At that same moment, says the report, Singh was southbound on US-395 at 55 mph coming up behind Baublit’s vehicle.

Baublit pulled to the right shoulder and then proceeded to make a U-turn directly into the path of Mr. Singh’s semi-trailer combination.

Mr. Singh told CHP that when he saw Baublit start her U-turn he applied his brakes and steered to his left in an attempt to avoid her vehicle.

However, as Baublit entered the northbound lane midway through her turn, the car was struck by the semi-trailer.

After impact the big rig pushed Baublit’s vehicle onto the east shoulder and both vehicles came to rest on the shoulder facing south.

Baublit and passenger Devon Bishop both were treated for major injuries. A second passenger, Nicholas Cline, received minor injuries.

The driver of the big rig was uninjured.
