CHP Report: 395 Accident Claims the Life of a Reno Man

The California Highway Patrol has released details of a Wednesday night accident on Highway 395 which took the life of a 64 year-old Reno resident.

According to the CHP the unidentified driver of a 1993 Ford Mustang was northbound on 395 north of Red Rock Road at an unknown speed.

At the same time Spark’s resident Steven Wilke was driving a 2012 Peterbilt tractor and trailer southbound on 395 north of Red Rock Road at approximately 55mph.

Both vehicles were approaching each other and, for reasons yet to be determined, the driver of the Ford Mustang crossed over the center lines directly into the path of the Peterbilt. Wilke applied the brakes but was unable to avoid the Mustang.

According to the CHP report the front of the Mustang collided with the front of Peterbilt, causing major damage to both vehicles. The driver of the Mustang sustained major injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene. Wilke sustained minor injuries and was transported to Renown Medical Center in Reno.
