Continuing Coverage: Willard Fire Tuesday A.M. Update

As of 6:00p.m. Cal-Fire has lifted Mandatory Evacuation orders and instead put Gold Run and Hidden Hills areas under an Advisory Evacuation notice.

From Cal-Fire

At 6:00p.m. Mandatory Evacuations were downgraded to Advisory and residents with proper identification will be allowed back into the areas. These areas include Gold Run and Hidden Hills Drive as well as the Cheney Creek Drainage East of Devils Corral. All other Evacuation Advisories will remain in effect.

  • Cal-Fire asks residents to be aware of the following guidelines:
  • Drive Slowly, numerous crews and equipment will be working in and around the roadways
  • Traffic controls will be in effect.
  • Hazard Trees – Make sure all trees are safe especially along roadways.
  • We are doing everything we can to accommodate civilians and get people back into their homes as soon as possible.

If there are electrical wires on the ground, stay clear and contact your local electric company immediately.

Trees and poles with deep charring, particularly if still smoking, should be considered hazardous.

Please drive slowly as emergency personnel are in the area.

Traffic Control Points:

Will remain at Susan Hills Drive at the 700 block, as well as Gold Run Road at Gold Crest Lane.

As of 4:30p.m. MANDATORY EVACUATIONS are still in place for Gold Run and Hidden Hills areas. There is no word yet when evacuation orders will be lifted.

Good morning everybody, here is your Tuesday morning update on the Willard Fire burning southwest of Susanville. This report supersedes our previous article and will be updated throughout the day, as conditions warrant.

According to Cal-Fire spokesperson Stacey Nolan crews made good progress on the fire overnight and will focus today’s effort to strengthen containment lines to slow the growth of the fire. The steep terrain and dry conditions due to the many years of drought have hampered fire suppression.

The fire has burned an estimated 2,527 acres since it began Sunday morning and fire officials are saying the blaze is 15% contained this morning.

There are 525 structures threatened but none have been damaged according to the morning Cal-Fire update.

There is no estimate for full containment of the fire.

Currently there are 125 engines, 41 water tenders, 14 helicopters, 4 air tankers, 44 hand crews, 39 dozers.

There are currently 1,673 personnel on the fire.

Evacuations:
Mandatory Evacuations are in place for the Gold Run area and Hidden Valley Drive. Also, Mandatory Evacuations for the Cheney Creek Drainage East of Devils Corral.

Evacuation Advisories are in place for the Susan Hills areas South of Susanville. Residents of River Bench Road and Bauer Road are encouraged to monitor fire activity very closely.

Evacuation Centers:

A Red Cross shelter has been set up at The Community Church of Susanville located at 1400 Numma Way, Susanville, near the intersection of Cameron Way.

Small and Large Animals can be evacuated to the Lassen County Fairgrounds – 195 Russell Avenue, Susanville, CA.

Road Closures:
Road Closures are at Susan Hills Drive at the 700 block, as well as Richmond Road at Gold Run Road.

Cooperating Agencies: USFS LNF, BLM, Susanville City, Sierra Army Depot, Standish Litchfield Fire, Milford Fire, Lake Forest Fire, Hamilton Branch Fire, California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation, California Highway Patrol, Red Cross, Lassen County OES.

We will, of course, update this post with information as soon as the evacuation orders have been lifted.
