Fire Department Releases Details in Monday Evening Structure Fire

The Susanville Fire Department has released details surrounding a Monday evening fire which destroyed an unoccupied residence on Riverside Drive near Riverside Park.

According to Engineer Kalvn McFarland the Susanville Fire Department, along with automatic aid from CalFire and Susan River Fire Protection District responded to a reported vegetation fire shortly before 7:00p.m. and found a fully involved structure fire extending into surrounding vegetation.

SFD Engine 621 assumed command of the Riverside incident and requested mutual aid from Janesville Fire Protection District and the CCC Fire Department.

“Engine 621 made an aggressive fire attack, as the fire was well established in the structure,” explains McFarland.

The fire was knocked down in around 30-minutes leaving in it’s wake heavy smoke and fire damage in the living area and attic of the empty residence, as well as smoke damage throughout.

Resources battling the fire included 7 fire engines, 1 ladder truck, 2 fire utilities, 1 air support trailer, 34 firefighters, 5 chief officers and 1 fire prevention officer.

There were no fire service or civilian injuries.

The Susanville Fire Department was assisted by the following agencies: Cal Fire, Susan River Fire Protection District, California Correctional Center Fire Department, Janesville Fire Protection District, Lassen County OES, Susanville Police Department, LMUD, and the City of Susanville Gas department.

According to McFarland the fire is currently under investigation, and no cause has been determined at this time.
