Fire crews have had their hands full this evening, tracking down more than a dozen lightning-sparked vegetation fires in the Honey Lake Valley.

Rain dampened most of the early starts, but several in rougher terrain are still burning with crews working their way into the fires.

Most of these small vegetation fires are burning on the side of Diamond Mountain south of Susanville.

Another fire is now being reported near McCoy flat on Highway 44.

Firefighters are working several fires sparked by lightning but at the moment all fires are being handled and the weather has cooperated by dropping moisture into areas where the fires flared-up.

No structures are threatened and no injuries have been reported.

We will monitor the situation and if a new wildfire threat appears we will let you know in this post.  -jc

Minor flooding is being reported from the slow moving thunderstorms.

—————————————————

5:46p.m. This afternoon’s thunderstorms have sent crews scrambling to several reported vegetation fires in the area around Susanville. The most visible is a small vegetation fire burning alongside Highway 395 around .25 miles south of the Bass Hill landfill.

Crews at the scene of that fire report heavy lightning still in the area of the fire, but the downpour that is accompanying the lightning is helping to slow the rate of spread.

Janesville
Crews are also responding to a reported lightning fire burning near Christie Street and Dirt Pine in Janesville.

This is live coverage of a fire event and we will keep you updated as long as conditions warrant.
