Center to Boost Lassen Economy
March 18th, 1961

Susanville’s economy will receive a boost in excess of $3,000,000 a year from wages and purchase when the new conservation center is in full operation.

The information was released in taped radio interview between State Sen. Stanley Arnold (D), Susanville and Fred Engle, deputy director of the department of corrections, in charge of the conservation division. Arnold and Engle there will be more than 20 salaried positions in the center, 140 of which will be concerned with inmate supervision and 110 or more with maintenance, cooking, education, administration and hospital care.

According to the building contractors, progress on construction is up to schedule and they will be able to meet the date of completion slated for June 30, 1962. There will be no housing on the installation for permanent personnel, although there will be a barracks type installation for visiting corrections personnel.
