Ronald Harper (Mac) McCormick
Ronald Harper (Mac) McCormick passed away at his home in Westwood, on March 3, 2019.
Mac was born in Escanaba, Michigan on May 28, 1933 to Golda Maxine Ladegast and Ervin Ladegast. He moved, with his family, to southern California in the mid 1940’s and enlisted in the
Army-Air Force in 1950.
He was stationed at Elmendorf Air Force Base in Alaska as an MP. Following his discharge in 1954, Mac returned to southern California where he completed barber school. In 1962, he moved to Westwood with his then-wife, Claudine, and son Ken. Mac worked as a barber until the mid-1970’s and then drove truck for Westwood Sanitation until he was disabled by a heart attack in 1981.
Mac was an avid outdoorsman, with a passion for fishing, hunting and camping with family and friends. He was a member of the local bass club for 30 years and was one of the founding members of the local pistol and gun clubs. He loved music as well and was a drummer in a local band for 15 years.
Mac was active in the community. He was a member of the Westwood Volunteer Fire Department for 20 years and served on the board of the Westwood Community Services District for 16 years. For the past 20 years, Mac volunteered his time at Coppervale Ski Hill. In addition, he was instrumental in helping Mountain Meadows Conservancy raise funds for the restoration of Walker Lake.
Mac is survived by his wife of 51 years, Patricia McCormick and children, sons Ken McCormick and his 5 children, James McCormick, Jack McCormick and honorary son David Cleveland and
his daughter. He is also survived by daughters Laura High-Dubois (husband Ralph) and their five children and Lisa Boettger ( husband David) and their three sons as well as his brother Duane
McCormick (wife Connie), honorary brother Frank Murray and a niece, four nephews, 15 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren and many friends that were like part of the family.
He was predeceased by Ervin Ladegast, Maxine McCormick, William McCormick, brother Kurt McCormick, son Christopher Jones, niece Pam McCormick and grandson, Matthew McCormick.
A graveside service, with full military honors, will be held for Mac at the Westwood Cemetery on Saturday, May 26, 2019 at 2:20 pm with a potluck to follow at the Westwood Community
Center.
